3 Quality Of Life Boosters

Recently, my neighbor asked me how I was doing. He is retired, and now lives the good life smoking a cigar watching ESPN all day.  Demoralized after a long day, I told him how much stress I felt.

He told me: find those “slices of heaven.” Anything that brings you joy, no matter how small, is a daily slice of heaven. Lately I’ve tried to be more conscious of these moments.

If you’re looking for a few ways to find joy in what can be an otherwise chaotic and overwhelming life, here are a few “slices of heaven” I’ve found that make me happier.

1.) Drink coffee out of a mug, not a paper cup.

Take some time to spoil yourself. The paper cup implies you’re on-the-run and is the most efficient way to inject caffeine into your system quickly. Hey, I get it.  Sometimes you’ve got no choice. However, when you get the chance, [amazon_textlink asin=’B073WY5Y95′ text=’grab your favorite cup ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’poms2moms-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’00fd92e3-5a03-11e8-93ef-9b8889177395′]and enjoy your morning beverage.  Let it fortify you for the day.

2.) Eat lunch alone.

Say a blessing for your food. Savor it. Open your [amazon_textlink asin=’B074HFP36Q’ text=’packed lunch‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’poms2moms-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’59f0b8f8-5a03-11e8-8818-7d16a38118b8′], and even if you only have 10 minutes, sit quietly.  Not only will it help you feel more satiated, but you can get some peace and quiet from the phones and emails.  Return to your obligations nourished and focused.

3.) Put some eucalyptus in your shower.

$3.00 at Trader Joe’s, friends! (Make sure you buy fresh, “baby blue” eucalyptus for the strongest scent.)  Let that hot water steam the shower and take a deep breath. Enjoy your quick slice of heaven.  This aromatherapy body wash works wonders, too. Clearly, I’m a big proponent of aromatherapy.

Hope you enjoy!  What are your slices of heaven?  I would love to learn from you, too.

I love that you mention drink coffee out a mug as I make a conscious effort to do so. I enjoy it so much more that way!

Isn’t it so much better in a mug? It feels like a treat. Nice to hear from you, Mrsg! 🙂

Ooooo eucalyptus in the shower sounds heavenly!

    • Karey | 20th May 18

I hope you like it! Be sure to get the strongest smelling eucalyptus you can find, and it should last about 10 days.

My slices of heaven is just to be able to finish a hot cup of coffee in the morning before it gets cold!

    • Karey | 20th May 18

Finding that slice of heaven on busy mornings sure can be tricky. I’ve been known to even bring a thermos to work and pour it into my cup when I get a chance to finally sit and drink it. I’m shameless. 🙂

What an interesting idea with the eucalyptus! For me, a mom of a toddler, any time I can nap is simply a slice of heaven!

    • Karey | 20th May 18

Oh, a nap certainly sounds heavenly! I bet your toddler keeps you moving, making it all the more warranted when you can catch a quick snooze. Thanks for commenting, Lisa!

It’s amazing how doing little things like this can bring bright spots to our otherwise fairly dreary day! I have a favourite mug that I use for my coffee, and it does make a difference haha. I think of my first mother’s day when my daughter was only 2 weeks old every time I use it, because that’s when it was given to me. I liked your lunch time and shower tips too – will have to give the eucalyptus one a go! 🙂 Hannah from http://www.womanontheway.com
